One of the rare Vietnamese restaurants in the West Lake area, Chao Ban is a restaurant with a rather "modest" area but still popular with diners perhaps because of its own flavor. It is known that the restaurant was opened by a French-Vietnamese, the dishes in the restaurant are also prepared by his own mother - Chef Madame Hang. Chao Ban serves traditional Vietnamese dishes, with a slight variation on how to prepare and present to suit the space.

This is a favourite of our friends in Hanoi. It did not disappoint !
Really great food including fresh bbq prawns and excellent pork ribs. Attentive, friendly service from the small staff was a real plus. Other highlights were the fresh spring rolls, and the banana cake. Nice wine list as well. We would recommend the MAPU Cabernet Sauvignon Carmenere.
The restaurant is on a quiet street that adds to the ambiance. You will have to cross the courtyard to find the washrooms, the tiles can be slick so take care.
Definitely worth checking out Chao Ban!!!
