Notes on safe travel to Ta Xua

Translated by Bing
Ta Xua is in the rainy season, the road is slippery and prone to landslides, visitors need to understand the weather situation to plan a trip accordingly.

Moving to Ta Xua

Ta Xua is a mountainous commune in Bac Yen district, Son La, located at an altitude of more than 2,800 m above sea level. This place has a cool climate all year round, is a famous cloud hunting spot, attracting a lot of tourists.

The road from Hanoi to Bac Yen town is an asphalt and concrete road that is easy to walk, only one section of the road from Bac Yen to Ta Xua is a winding mountain road, one side is a ravine. The road is about 13 km long, just enough width for two cars with less than 16 seats to pass. If it rains, the road is more difficult to walk because a lot of mud and gravel from the mountainside flows down, and it is easy to slip. Many tourists on motorbikes have to get off the cart and walk through the muddy roads.

Guests should not take a car directly to Ta Xua on bad weather days. Instead, you can park your car in the center of Bac Yen, then rent a motorbike to continue the road to Ta Xua.

If the steering wheel is not stable, visitors should rent a local motorbike taxi because the road is steep, narrow and has many corners.

Proper Tourist Season

Summer coincides with the rainy season, starting from April to September, with the highest rainfall concentrated in July, August, and September. The best time to come here is from October to March, when there is little rain, it is easy to hunt the sea of clouds.

Accommodation

Ta Xua does not have large hotels and comfortable resorts. In the area with homestays and motels, prices range from 200,000 VND to one million VND per night. Accommodations are mainly concentrated in the central or nearby area, with community-style houses (stilt houses) and some private rooms. Some accommodation spots are located on high hillsides, the location is easy to hunt clouds. Rooms are designed in the form of bungalows (one or two floors), detached houses, stilt houses. However, if it rains heavily, it is recommended to avoid places to stay next to streams, which are high in the forest, prone to landslides.

Currently, many homestays in Ta Xua are built spontaneously and have not registered for business. Visitors should carefully research accommodation options before booking to avoid risks.
