Climbing Ta Lead Nhù in the purple blooming season of mountains and forests

Translated by Bing
The name genus comes from the H'Mong's response when asked about this flower. Tsi Pau (transliterated as "chi puff" meaning "unknown"). Since then, climbers in Vietnam have maintained this bold highland name.

Nguyen Anh Chiem, 41, and Do Thi Quynh, 38, living in Hanoi share the same interest in travel, exploration and photography. They just had a three-day-two-night trip, from 14 to 16/9, climbing Ta Lead Nhù, which is known as "the roof of Yen Bai" and watching chili flowers.

From early September to early October, the flowers bloom profusely. The best blooming time is mid-September, which ranges from 14 to 25. Due to the fact that the flower grows on mountainous terrain, at an altitude of 2,500 m and above, it is difficult to take pictures. For satisfactory shots, Chiem uses a telephoto lens to take photos of people, and a wide-angle lens for panoramic shots. "Due to the large scenery and steep slope, many of my shots had to be taken vertically and horizontally, combining bracketing techniques (taking 3-5 shots and then merging them into one)."

"The most beautiful bloom in two weeks is gone. But the most beautiful moment of flowers is in the light of dawn. At that time, Chi Pu was like a princess in the middle of the mountains and forests of the Northwest. Therefore, if you want to hunt at your best, you need to choose a sunny day so that you can capture both sunrise and sunset." he said. His trip this time only captured the sunrise, and the sunset due to the weather did not favor it, so there were no good photos.

The weather in the mountains is erratic, rainy and sunny, so it is necessary to bring some protective equipment such as raincoats, cold jackets, hats, preventive medicines such as flu, headaches to reduce fever, power banks, flashlights.

His trip this time involved seven people. They depart from 2h in Hanoi, follow Google Maps to Tram Tuo, Yen Bai at 8h. After resting, at 9 o'clock the group started climbing. "This was the hardest day of the journey. For the first three hours, we climbed the mountain smoothly, with little slope. At 12:00 p.m., the group rested for lunch. The journey after lunch began to be more strenuous, the difficulty increased due to the long steep terrain, many vertical sections. The group was very tired, but everyone encouraged each other to be determined to get there. At 4 p.m., we went to the shack." he said.

The second day was the best, according to the group. They get up at 4am, have breakfast and then pack up so that 5h they can start to the top to conquer Ta Lead Nhu. On the way, people avidly watched the flowerbeds blooming on the mountainside, brilliant in the sunrise. "We walked slowly to see the foresight of the mountains and forests," he said.

The higher you go, the purple bloom becomes. At the top, a whole flap of forest flowers appeared in front of the eyes of Hanoi tourists. This is also the most flowery and beautiful location in Ta Lead Nhu. The group took a break for lunch, then took photos with the 2,799 m milestone. Then, at 3 p.m., they continue to the goat shack (where people keep goats) to watch the sunset. The flowers on the side of the shack are white with pink, instead of purple as at the top. After that, the group went to a specialized shack for overnight rest, eating. On the last day, the group moved down the mountain to depart for Hanoi, ending the trip.
