Snorkeling to see corals, explore the bottom of Nha Trang Bay

Translated by Bing
Hon Rom, one of the permitted diving spots in Nha Trang Bay, has many large schools of fish and corals showing signs of recovery.

Nha Trang Bay is nearly 250 km2 wide, is one of the 16 marine protected areas of the country. It has the richest and most diverse corals and ecosystems in the world. Previously, corals in some areas in the bay were severely declined, bleached. Therefore, from June 2022, the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requested to stop swimming and diving activities in the Hon Mun area (near Hon Rom), to protect and restore coral reefs and marine ecosystems.

Only the Hon Rom area, about 13 nautical miles from the mainland, belongs to the strictly protected subdivision of Nha Trang Marine Protected Area, and scuba diving is still allowed. The coral scenery on the ocean floor is not as beautiful as in the period before it was "bleached", however, the fish on the seabed here still gather in large numbers, some schools of fish are very large and beautiful.

According to the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, the storm in 2021 had a great impact on the coral ecosystem in the bay. In addition, in recent decades, the Earth's climate and warming sea levels have caused coral bleaching, which seriously threatens the ecosystem.

The Management Board regularly inspects and supervises the coral reef ecosystem, cleans the seabed such as catching spiny starfish, picking up garbage; stop scuba diving tourism at some vulnerable points for corals, severely fine some illegal fishing vessels. After a year, corals recovered with "many encouraging signs".

Yellow-tailed firefish swim in large schools on the seabed, and divers liken them to "a blue symphony". Facing the reality of coral damage, many tourists suggested that the Khanh Hoa government could use the wrecks of shipwrecks and shipwrecks,... artificial reefs, contributing to creating highlights at the bottom of the ocean.

The terrain at the bottom of Nha Trang Bay is diverse, some points have high cliffs, some bottom sections are mostly rocky, interspersed with thorny bridges - one of the enemies of corals.

Anemones curl up and bloom (back photo) with colorful colors, the circular shape is likened by many divers to a "sticky rice package". The creature has a symbiotic relationship with clownfish, such as protecting the fish from enemies, providing food through the surplus from the anemone's meals, and occasionally dead anemone tentacles. In turn, the clownfish protects the anemone from its enemies such as parasites.

Divers explored a rock cave at the bottom of the sea at a depth of 12 meters, with a lack of light around them, so they needed to use lights to illuminate the passage and see the sea creatures.

In early June, Khanh Hoa province agreed to pilot recreational sports scuba diving in four areas in Nha Trang Bay for a year to serve people and tourists.
