Con Co is an island district of Quang Tri province, about 30 km from the coast. From Cua Tung beach, visitors can also see Con Co rising green in the middle of an immense sea sky. Although not too far from the mainland, to get to the island, you will have to hitchhike to a fishing boat or naval vessel because there is no dedicated passenger ship here.
After about 1 hour the boat runs from Cua Viet port or Cua Tung, you will set foot on a rare beautiful island, created from volcanoes for millions of years in the middle of the sea. Like many other islands, Con Co is dressed in the idyllic wild beauty of vast primeval forests. Coming here, visitors feel lost in the nature museum of basalt rock shelves and a 3-storey rainforest ecosystem on a unique coral shelf.
Coral reefs in Con Co have high coverage, diverse species composition and are relatively intact only after Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang), Con Dao (Ba Ria Vung Tau) and Hon Mun (Khanh Hoa). There are currently 109 species of corals, including many rare species, especially red and black corals. The unique and rare beauty of the mysterious black coral reefs surrounding the island is like an attractive invitation that visitors love to explore hard to resist.
Each week there are 2 tours to Con Co island, lasting during the day or overnight. Visitors travel by composite boat of Con Co island district, departing from Cua Viet port (Gio Linh district) with a duration of 2 hours. Each tour welcomes at least 25-30 guests to depart. The tour takes visitors to visit the traditional room of the island district 2 times heroes in the resistance war against the US, burn memorial incense at Con Co hero monument, trek among primeval old-growth forest and finally see the panoramic view of Con Co island on the lighthouse.
Arriving on the island, visitors are fully equipped with life jackets, shoes, diving goggles ... for scuba diving, coral watching, shore fishing or boat fishing in the evening. For group guests staying overnight in need will be arranged to interact with youth or armed forces on the island. Visitors will be arranged to sleep in Con Co district guest house, sleep in the form of homestay with islanders or stretch tents to sleep on the beach.
