Tran Van Bi, 31 years old, from Tran Van Thoi district, built a village experience tour with activities of catching crabs, pulling out the tub, staying at a leaf house, attracting international tourists to experience.
Experiential tourism in Ca Mau is not seasonal but varies from region to region. Ca Mau has 3 regions: freshwater, saltwater and brackish water.
In particular, Dat Mui is a salty water area with mangrove forests. Thi Tuong lagoon is brackish water with about 700 hectares of coconut forests surrounded. And in U Minh Ha forest is a freshwater area. Depending on each region, I design tours with different activities.
With an experience tour at Thi Tuong lagoon, visitors will have the opportunity to follow the locals to catch shrimp, crabs, fish, fishing or searching for cockles, groping, and pulling out the tub – a specialty plant of Ca Mau.
With the tour to explore U Minh Ha forest, visitors can experience going to the forest with the locals, catching fish with rudimentary tools such as ovens or placing bunches to catch eels, setting traps to catch rats and especially harvesting beehives.
In addition to activities on the tour, visitors can also enjoy delicious dishes and specialties made from natural ingredients, available locally. Even some dishes are made from ingredients collected and caught by tourists themselves.
Each experience tour is limited to less than 10 people. Even if there are only 1 or 2 guests, he warmly welcomes anyone who comes here to have the most complete and interesting experience in the southernmost land of the country.
The 31-year-old admitted that the initial implementation of the model was quite difficult because local people did not understand what experiential tourism and community tourism are. He had to go door-to-door, share about the methods and benefits to convince them to participate. Currently, there are nearly 10 households participating in the tourism model implemented by Mr. Bi, bringing a good source of income.
Not only known by domestic tourists, Mr. Bi's homestay and "a day as a Ca Mau person" experience tour also attract foreign guests, from many countries such as India, the UK, the US, and France,... Every month, on average, he welcomes 2-3 international delegations to visit.
