From mid-February to the end of March is a short period of time that tourists in Spring at the beginning of the year have the opportunity to see birds of prey when taking a boat tour at Ba Be Lake. This is a rare migratory bird in the wild in Vietnam, mainly migrating from the North (southeast of China) to large freshwater lakes in Vietnam to avoid wintering.
The Mandarin Duck ( Aix Galericulata) is a medium-sized tree pea duck that is closely related to the North American Carolina duck. For adults, the length is about 41-49cm and the wingspan is 65-75cm.
In nature, the eucalyptus breeds in wooded areas near ponds, shallow lakes, and swamps. They nest in tree hollows, close to the water, and are distributed mainly in the lowlands of eastern China and southern Japan.
The male (also known as uyen) has a colorful plumage that is difficult to mistaken, has a red beak, a large white crescent-shaped feather trail above the eyes and a red face and a "mustache". Purple chest with two longitudinal white stripes, two red hips , with two clusters of orange sail-like feathers on the back.
The female (also called the female) with a white annular rim around the eyes and stripes running backwards from the eyes, but fades, with small white stripes on the sides and a pale beak tip.
With the characteristics of size and brilliant color, the lovebird is considered one of the most beautiful birds in the world today. This bird is considered a symbol of fidelity, deep fidelity. Because they live together in pairs for life, they sleep together, eat together and rarely see separation (except when the female incubates the eggs).
During this time, visitors to Ba Be Lake also have the opportunity to see the yellow-headed duck (scientific name is Anas penelope), a migratory bird that is rarer than the eunuch in Vietnam.
Ba Be Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in Vietnam with an area of 500 hectares, along with a 10,000-hectare primeval forest showing biodiversity, attracting many species of wild animals and birds to reside.
