Weekend wading streams, eating village rice in Hamlet Ké, Hoa Binh

Translated by Bing
Hamlet Ke belongs to Hien Luong commune, Da Bac district, a highland district of Hoa Binh province, located close to the bed of the Da River lake. About 90 km from Hanoi, this destination is very suitable for the weekend to escape the heat, recharge with the nature of the mountains and forests.

Move

Starting from the center of Hanoi to Hoa Binh, there are two directions or Hoa Lac direction, through the Vietnamese Ethnic Cultural Tourism Village, turn to Hoa Lac - Hoa Binh highway or Ha Dong - Xuan Mai to Hoa Binh.

From Hoa Binh city, there are also two ways to go to Ke village. One is to travel by road along provincial road 433, to Da Bac town, turn left and go about 8 km along the winding road along the lake to come. Or go by water from Thung Nai port, after an hour floating on the lake, combined with the peaceful lake view of the "floating islands", then dock on the shore continue walking for a few hundred meters on the green grass to reach the center of the village.

By road, the total distance of about 90 km will take 2 - 2.5 hours. If you save time, you can take a self-driving car or motorbike on Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, to enjoy a night sleeping on stilts without being too tired from moving a lot.

Stay

Hamlet Ke has more than 90 households, mainly Muong people, with cultural features from the food and sticky rice are almost original. Currently, the village has only a few households doing community tourism, turning the family's stilt house into a welcoming homestay. Some homestays that are welcoming guests in Ke village are Sac Luyen, Huu Thao, Compare Thuan, with room rates from only 100,000 VND / night.

Have fun

While the capital Hanoi is unbearably hot until night is still above 30 degrees Celsius, in Da Bac, the surrounding mountains and trees make the night temperature about 24-25 degrees Celsius, the highest daytime is only 30-31 degrees Celsius, very pleasant. Not only that, in the evening to the fresh and quiet sky of Dabei, you can watch the stars with the naked eye and listen to the sound of insects in the garden.

The next morning you will wake up amidst the crowing of chickens and the early kitchen smoke of the people. After breakfast, the homestay owner in Ke village will introduce you to interesting forms of experiences such as walking, cycling through the trails to explore the village, wading and bathing in cool streams, picnicking on the green grass along the Da River lake, kayaking on the lake, rafting ...

In addition, Ke stream is also a summer attraction, the clear spring flowing from high mountains weaves through the village and then empties into the bed of Da River lake. Many young people or families from Hanoi come here at the weekend to relax with a bath in the stream and enjoy a barbecue right at the camp next to the stream. Adults can relax among the green forest, enjoy specialties, young children can struggle by the clear stream, learn about natural grass and trees, see the impossible things in the city.

Eating

Hamlet Ke has many products, especially fish, shrimp (Da River lake), chickens and ducks that can be raised and caught easily and processed into specialties such as chicken, grilled fish, steamed fish, barbs, banana braised zech, pork, buffalo meat with convex leaves, mistletoe, vegetables, forest shoots ...

The homestays in the neighborhood are very dedicated to serving guests, whether you order rice on site or request to take it to the shack by the stream, it will be met. Rice is usually laid out in the style of the leaves of the Muong people, not using dishes to store each dish but laying it all on the motherboard, lined with clean banana leaves. A full meal will range from fish, meat to boiled, stir-fried or pickled vegetables served with lots of fresh herbs. The price for one person to eat is about 200,000 VND.
