Every year, at the end of spring to prepare for summer, the vermicelli tree, which is said to be "unique" in Hanoi with an estimated age of over 300 years, blooms bright yellow flowers. The vermicelli tree is also considered a symbol of Dinh Thon village.
The vermicelli flower tree, also known as "white flower" or "curtain", belongs to the genus Crateva, the Cable family, also known as the Bach family. This is a broad-crowned woody tree, loose wood, 15-20m high, round cylindrical fat stem, strong branching, gray-brown bark. The branches are often curved and very flexible. The flowers bloom most in the 2nd lunar month, then gradually fade, but when the season turns to summer, the rain is humid, the tree blooms again in clusters of shimmering yellow and white, which is very eye-catching. The flowers will fade in 1 month.
The vermicelli flowers have a pleasant aroma. The inflorescence has 2 colors, the pistil is shaped like a vermicelli, each inflorescence resembles a vermicelli. Seen from a distance, the whole flower tree reminds people of... a basket of vermicelli. Therefore, people always call it the vermicelli flower tree. This tree in Vietnam is widely grown in some localities such as Hue, Quang Nam, Ninh Thuan, etc. but in Hanoi it seems that there is only 1 of this tree left in Dinh Thon.
