Don Village is situated in the heart of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, in Thanh Lam commune, Ba Thuoc district. Previously, the inhabitants lived scattered and individually rather than in a consolidated hamlet. Gradually, for the sake of convenience in daily life, water sources, and community gatherings, the people here began to gather and form the hamlet. In the Thai language, it's referred to as "đôn." Thus, the name "Bản Đôn" has persisted from then until now.
"Bản Đôn" is home to over 80 households with 285 residents, including 23 households and 1 community-based business. With a year-round cool climate characteristic of highland areas, it's an ideal choice for visitors seeking relaxation. The majority of residents in Don Hamlet are Thai people, with a minority being Muong. This hamlet is one of the few in Pu Luong that retains the characteristic stilt house culture with its unique, sturdy, and well-constructed architecture. Consequently, it's also where the most homestays and resorts are concentrated in Pu Luong.
Nestled beneath the Pù Luông mountain range and enveloped by extensive terraced rice fields, Bản Đôn offers visitors the opportunity to marvel at the mountains, pristine forests, terraced fields, and the daily life of the locals right from the stilt houses. Visitors to Bản Đôn can relish in local specialties prepared by the locals, such as cơm lam (bamboo-cooked rice), Cổ Lũng duck, grilled fish, steamed pork, and more. Additionally, guests can enjoy "rượu cần" (fermented alcohol), participate in cultural exchange programs, learn about the traditional craft of weaving and dyeing, and delve into the cultural identity of the indigenous people.
