Trekking, bathing, watching the sunrise at Bach Ma National Park

Translated by Bing
Possessing beautiful natural scenery and many interesting tourist experiences, Bach Ma National Park is one of the attractive destinations in Thua Thien Hue.

About 40 km from Hue city , Bach Ma National Park is an attractive eco-tourism destination for tourists, because of its magnificent natural landscapes and diverse experiences. This is the only strip of primeval forest of Vietnam that crosses the country from the East Sea to the Vietnam-Laos border.

After arriving at the gate of Bach Ma National Park, you buy tickets for 60,000 VND per adult and 20,000 VND per child. In addition to walking, the most convenient way to move to the top of the mountain is to rent a car for 900,000 VND round-trip. To save costs, you should go in a group, book a tour in advance in Hue, Da Nang, or arrive at the park gate early to apply for a group.

The car will take visitors through a road of about 20 km winding around the mountain to go straight to Vong Hai Dai, the first attraction, the highest place in Bach Ma National Park. The building was built by the French. From this location, you can zoom in on the panoramic view of Lang Co Bay, Truoi Lake and Bach Ma mountains and forests in the clouds. This is an easy sightseeing route for visitors of all ages.

After that, you get on the car and continue for about 5 km to the Five Lakes area consisting of 5 large and small lakes connected. The lakes are not deep, with clear blue and cool water. This is a favorite stop for lunch and spring bathing of many tourists after walking about 30 minutes on the forest road to the lake.

According to the itinerary, Do Quyen waterfall is the next destination, about 2-3 km from the Five Lakes. From the top of the waterfall with a height of up to 300 m, visitors often sit and rest on the rocks where the water flows down to the waterfall wall and enjoy the panoramic view of the low mountains in the clouds even on sunny days. You can follow the sign down to the foot of the waterfall with nearly 700 steps to admire the majesty of this waterfall with your own eyes.

On the journey to explore the national park, the forest road has many sections of stream ice equipped with safety ropes and sturdy bridges, visitors can cross. If you have time, you can visit the architecture of some abandoned villas, which used to be a resort for French officers and Hue elites on the top of Bach Ma.

After the end of the journey to visit the national park, the "dwarf village" at the foot of Bach Ma Mountain is a suggestion point for tourists to rest and take check-in photos. This is a picnic area built based on the inspiration of the living place of the Hobbit dwarf in the famous movie "The Lord of the Rings". The entrance ticket price to the tourist area is 100,000 VND per adult and 60,000 VND per child 0.9 - 1.3 m tall. Children under 0.9 m are free of charge.

You should also turn into Truoi Lake at the foot of the mountain, rent a boat to cool off in the middle of the mountainous natural landscape, then come to Truc Lam Bach Ma Zen Monastery. Here, visitors can see the mountains from above, guided to practice meditation (if booked in advance).

The name Bach Ma comes from some anecdotes related to the fact that clouds cover the mountain all year round. In the past, people in this area often looked up and saw white mist rising to form a horse-shaped mass. Another legend says that a general rode a white horse up a mountain and then mysteriously disappeared.

From December to April is the right time to explore the mountains and forests here, at this time the weather is sunny and convenient for traveling.
