Located about 30km from Chau Doc city (An Giang), Tra Su melaleuca forest with an area of 845 hectares of core area and 643 hectares of buffer zone is in the system of special-use forests of Vietnam, recognized as a landscape protection area in 2005. Coming to Tra Su melaleuca forest, visitors have the opportunity to visit and experience the natural scenery on the river by rowing boats and interest shells.
Tra Su melaleuca forest is home to more than 70 species of birds, including 2 rare birds that have been recorded in the Red Book of Vietnam, the lotus (Mycteria leucocephala) and the oriental mad (Anhinga melanogaster).
Initially, the purpose was to plant forests to prevent salinity and prevent watershed floods. From a degraded low-lying area, heavily contaminated with alum, which has been experimentally planted by Tinh Bien Forestry Farm, after many years of renovation and development, this place has become the "green lung" of An Giang and is visited by many domestic and foreign tourists. Many tourists admire the breathtaking beauty of the scenery and the life of many birds here.
Besides, Tra Su melaleuca forest is known for the scenes of the restoration of the Western floating market in many famous movies . With a unique architecture and a length of 10km, the Ten Thousand Steps Bamboo Bridge has been recorded as the longest bamboo bridge in Vietnam.
In the floating water season at Tra Su melaleuca forest, visitors can enjoy typical dishes such as: spirit fish, crazy cotton, snakehead fish, fish sauce hotpot... all have bold Western cuisine. Not only rich in animals, Tra Su melaleuca forest is also a gathering place for 140 species of plants.
