The Haflington, a bar located on Hang Ma Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi is the only representative of Vietnam to be honored in the top 50 this year. The restaurant is also the first name to appear on the list. In 2023, Vietnam has no representatives in the top 50 Best Bars.
Located in the attic of an old house on Hang Ma Street, The Haflington is designed as a private museum with typical European architecture, using a variety of wood materials combined with warm yellow lights, accentuated by wall paintings and antiques or animal specimens from small to large sizes.
The light here is set up quite darkly, only igniting dim small lights or somewhere the moonlight from the transparent ceiling, creating a sense of mystery and mysteriousness, like getting lost in ancient museums.
The shop has two floors: an extra floor with a private room area with a comfortable sofa. The main floor - where the bar is located and also the space that people often choose to sit, with high chairs and suitable for couples chatting.
A private museum
The Haflington is a unique cocktail bar inspired by the image of a private museum and a European-style heritage wine bar.
If the giant dinosaur skeleton hanging from the bar doesn't reveal it, The Haflington is inspired by major European museums, with a great vintage feel, complete with fossils and rows of second-hand books. It is a stunning, immersive space spread over two floors, with soft lighting and lots of wood. Head to the grand bar to explore the bar's menu, The Jungle Book, which takes guests on a cocktail making adventure.
Beautifully illustrated, the bar offers a wide range of drinks from lesser-known classics to Haflington's signature drinks. For example, Rabbit Habit is a clever blend of botanical and earthy flavors, combining mezcal, carrot juice, and cinnamon syrup. Beyond the bar, there are plenty of cozy nooks and crannies to explore, with comfortable dark leather seating.
From the very beginning, part of The Haflington's mission was to preserve and restore the forgotten classic Coctail recipes. That's why the Main Menu has a formal item called "Vintage Recipe".
The Haflington menu focuses on classic cocktails - drinks with classic recipes, aiming for classic and original values. They are quite heavy, so if you can't drink a lot of alcohol, don't hesitate to ask the bartender for further advice.
