From March 1, Dong Bai ferry terminal replaced Got ferry terminal to transport passengers from the mainland to Cat Ba island. There are some caveats when using this new ferry terminal.
From the center of Hai Phong city, visitors go through Tan Vu bridge, to the intersection opposite Vinfast Automobile Factory, there will be signs to enter Dong Bai ferry terminal (the same way to the cable car station). The distance from Tan Vu - Lach Huyen motorway to the ferry disembarkation ticket station is about 2 km. Dong Bai new ferry terminal is about 3 km from the former Got pier.
From Dong Bai wharf (Cat Hai district) to Cai Vieng wharf (Cat Ba island) is 1.86 km, 120 m longer than the old route, the travel time through Cat Hai strait is about 10 minutes longer.
The new ferry terminal is 8 hectares wide, with a large fully equipped waiting house, spacious access roads. The entire area of the access road to the wharf is about 1.8 hectares.
The docking area for receiving passengers and vehicles is 61.4 m long, 35 m wide, nearly 11% steep, and at the same time welcomes two large ferries and one small ferry.
Ferry running time:
- Dong Bai Wharf: the first trip is 5h30, the last trip is 18h30.
- Cai Vieng pier: the first trip 5h30, the last trip 18h.
The time between each ferry trip ranges from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the time of day. On busy days, the ferry terminal will arrange more flights in the schedule to serve passengers.
The ferry ticket price applied from 1/1 to 30/6 ranges from 9,800 VND (for pedestrians) to 810,000 VND (cars from 10 to 13 tons with cargo). Fares for some popular vehicles:
- Cyclists: VND 9,800
- Motorcyclists: VND 37,000
- Cars under 9 seats: VND 159,000
- Cars from 9 to 24 seats: 175,000 VND
- Cars from 24 to under 32 seats: 200,000 VND.
Household registration holders in Cat Hai district receive discounts.
Visitors who do not use private vehicles via ferry, when arriving at Cai Vieng pier, can rent a car into the island center with prices ranging from 350,000 VND to 1.6 million VND, depending on the type of vehicle.
