Unique Cantonese Assembly Hall in the heart of Hanoi's Old Quarter

Translated by Bing
22 Hang Buom Digital Arts and Culture Center, also known as the Guangdong Assembly Hall, is a place that attracts many people because of its unique architectural features, the intersection of Western-Vietnamese-Chinese cultures.

The Cantonese Assembly Hall was formed by the Cantonese community (China) about 400 years ago in the process of settling, trading and trading in the streets of Hang Ngang, Hang Buom, Hang Bo, Lan Ong (Ha Kou ward in the old days)...

It used to be a place of religious and community activities for people of Chinese descent, and a place for transactions, trade agreements, and commercial dispute arbitration. The Cantonese Assembly Hall also preserves the memory of Hang Buom Street. Here, you will learn about the life story, the street story, the story of the ancient Ke Cho people, overseas Chinese and of Hanoi people today.

Going through many ups and downs over time, this ancient architecture was embellished at the end of 2018 and completed at the end of 2021 to become an art exhibition center with the current official name of 22 Hang Buom Culture and Art Center.

The architecture at 22 Hang Buom Culture and Art Center still retains many ancient features, harmoniously combining Western - Vietnamese - Chinese cultures. Four rows of houses have a structure that combines the word "Kou", combined with a heavenly courtyard (skylight) in the middle of the spaces to circulate air and light. The space is arranged into many floors and layers with different compartments. The architecture of the hall stands out thanks to the embossed reliefs, if you look closely, you will see the meticulousness and sophistication in every detail.

With a total area of about 1,800m2, the first impression that this place brings to visitors is the large space with many impressive layouts, both classic and modern breath.
