Located in Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province, King Dinh Tien Hoang temple is located in a cluster of relics belonging to Hoa Lu ancient capital. This is the only place in Vietnam dedicated to King Dinh Tien Hoang, his parents, sons and is a memorial to the Dinh court generals.
Located peacefully among the moss-covered trees, King Dinh Temple is an architectural work bearing a unique imprint of wood and stone carving art of Vietnamese folk artisans.
The temple is built in the style of "foreign internal work" architecture (the pagoda style has two long corridors connecting the pre-tang house in front with the back-street house in the back), forming a rectangular frame surrounding the Thieu Huong house and the structures in the middle.
The main architectural works at the temple include: Ngo Mon quan, Yimen, three buildings of Bai Tang, Thieu Huong and Main Palace along with flower gardens, miniatures ... From Bai Tang, visitors will see the Thieu Huong building, then the Main Palace with 5 pavilions, the middle nave worships the statue of King Dinh Tien Hoang.
Although it has undergone many stages of restoration and preservation, the ancient temple still retains the sculptural features and architecture of the Hau Le period with the themes: fairy riding dragon, dichotomous dragon adoration, bidragon adoration, dragon nest, dragon ... showcasing the great sculptural skills of ancient folk artisans.
King Dinh Tien Hoang Temple is an important relic belonging to the special protection zone, recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site in Trang An World Cultural and Natural Heritage Complex in 2014 and also a famous spiritual tourist destination of Ninh Binh land.
The temple attracts many domestic and foreign tourists to visit and admire every day. The most crowded time is usually on the festival of King Dinh temple on the 8th day of the 3rd month of the lunar calendar every year. The festival takes place over 3 days, from March 8 to 10, attracting thousands of visitors.
