This type of camping helps players form thinking and practice survival skills in the wild environment such as setting up shelters, searching for food, sorting animals and plants, practicing techniques using tools... Bushcraft camping is not yet popular in Vietnam.
Not only does it consume physical strength because of long-distance trekking, crossing forests and wading streams, most activities rely on nature, from food and drink to sleeping places. In addition to some rice, salt, rice cookers and necessary forest tools such as knives and flashlights, the crew members must always be ready to "hunt" and alert to what nature will bring.
Each forest will have its own ecosystem, so it is necessary to rely on the environment there to find food. This is also a method of learning how to distinguish animals and plants as well as how to hunt and gather to survive in the forest. Along the way, people will have to observe if there are any plants that can be eaten. In addition to the familiar forest trees such as mushrooms, bamboo shoots, palm leaves, there are also local plants with many other nutrients such as vegetables, convex leaves, palm cores, forest rattan, green moss in streams. These are all knowledge gained after many wild camping trips.
Hunting animals in the forest for protein is more difficult than gathering trees and fruits. Some of the animals most often caught in the forest are stream fish, crabs, rock snails, frogs, mice. But not all hunting trips are as fruitful as expected. Therefore, each group participating in the camp limits the number of members to less than 10 people to ensure the amount of food. There will always be a few key members or natives with a lot of experience to guide the rest of the team and handle the situation.
No need to bring a tent available, the accommodation of the group is made up of trees, bamboo, stems and leaves of bananas and palms in the forest. Each trip usually lasts 3 days and 2 nights, on the way you can set up 2-3 tents as a sleeping place.
The bushcraft camping experience is often risky, forcing participants to accept natural risks such as snake bites, insect bites, poisoning trees in the forest, accidents along the way due to unfamiliarity with the terrain (falling into waterfalls, falling trees in the rainy and stormy season). Bushcraft players in addition to the usual camping skills also need to know the so-called survival skills such as self-first aid, distinguishing poisonous animals and plants, creating fire with bare hands and having good stamina. In addition to learning through online forums and videos, players need to practice many times to draw experience for each situation.
In case the psychology is not strong enough, players should go camping in groups in places that are not too deserted, do not go deep into forests and mountains. If you go to places where there is no phone signal, you need to have a plan to leave the location and coordinates for relatives and friends. Always carry first aid equipment with you in case of emergency.
With the nature of requiring a lot of skills, knowledge, physical strength as well as difficulty in how to play with a high level of risk, this is a type of camping that is not easy to play.
