We stayed at the ocean bay resort for 4 nights. There were 4 of us in total, me and my partner and my parents and we stayed in the beachfront villa.
The setting is wonderful and the general look of the resort is truly stunning, I couldn’t fault the beachfront villa at all- the curtains open onto a beautiful beachfront view and there are some nice shaded sunbeds right in front of the rooms which you can use. All I would say is the balcony is essentially shared between 2 villas. Some have a bamboo divider but not the majority and as a party of 4 it was perfect but I’m not sure how I’d have felt sharing with a stranger. The bathroom area is lovely and essentially outside, we loved this as there were glimpses of the ocean from the shower.
The beach is lovely but we did find there were some days where it’s difficult to get a sun bed on the front which is a bit of a pain.. especially as there seems to be a habit of people leaving all their stuff on beds and then essentially not coming back to them all day.
The pool is lovely as well really scenic and has lovely views of the sea again. One slight warning with this resort.. there are people taking photos of themselves everywhere- and I don’t mean a few snaps I mean at times you’d be sat having a drink and someone would decide to photograph, video themselves etc for sometimes up to an hour and a half.. although not the resorts fault.. often people don’t consider the impact this has on the view and experience of others.. ie they’ll stand directly in front of you for the right photo..
So overall it’s great- unfortunately it is a little let down as well by the service and staff. In Vietnam generally the staff are incredibly helpful and could not do more for you. Unfortunately this is not the ocean bay, breakfast was hit and miss as to whether you were offered coffee etc or not.. and sometimes if you asked for one the staff would tell you you could make it yourself.. even though there is an a la carte coffee menu.. this was just bizarre. Also be ready to wait for your dinner in the restaurant- the service was slow, sometimes painfully slow and being honest I was disappointed in the dinner menu. It just generally felt like staff were doing you a favour if you asked for something.. there were a few exceptions to this- Khahn in the restaurant was brilliant and his English was stronger than most of the other staff! Also there was a tall gentleman working in the bar who was really kind and helpful!
Overall it’s a strong hotel but for me, it’s a solid 4 (which the rest of the group agreed) and has a way to go to be a 5
