This was our first visit to Phu Quoc and based on Trip Advisor reviews we chose Salinda Resort staying in a Garden Villa. The staff are truly lovely, with everyone smiley and on hand to help. (Special shout out to Chi, Duyen, Linh and Van).
The hotel is on a nice stretch of beach, with beautiful sand that extends into the clean sea. The pool is lovely and the pool bar is close at hand for a cool beer and snacks. Location is 10 minutes from the airport and 10-15 mins in to town – so a great location. There are restaurants and bars that you can easily walk to on the main street in front of the hotel.
Our room was spacious with a big comfortable bed – and being a villa was set apart from the main hotel block. I would recommend going for a so called ‘villa’ (…really just a bigger room with a terrace) if your budget allows.
Breakfast was superb as others have mentioned. We also ate at both the Italian and Indian restaurants in the evening. Whilst the food was very nice especially at the Indian restaurant, they are both relatively expensive for PQ but more importantly lacked any atmosphere as despite the hotel being quite busy there were very few diners. Perhaps as there are many, good quality, cheaper alternatives close by (…see other reviews).
Whilst this hotel has character it does need modernising both in terms of its facilities and some practices … for instance rooms could do with a refresh; new sun-bed cushions; new towels; the lobby and main bar look like something from the 1970s and the poor band who perform night after night in the indoor 1970s style bar to 6-7 people – put them outside by the pool bar and keep the bar open longer and try to create a classy evening venue where guests can eat, drink and enjoy the talented performers.
Other things the hotel should consider are things like offering free water around the pool and beach area - a low cost necessity in the heat; improve the water-sports facilities beyond a kayak; put a table tennis table/pool table in the garden area. Also it would be easy to section parts of the hotel, breakfast area, pool and beach as adult only area – as during our stay there were plenty of kids! Unfortunately I fear that this characterful hotel will struggle with the competition created by the new Intercontinental and Regent hotels.
