Overall an enjoyable two night adventure. We booked the Le Theatre Suite (I believe the most expensive on the boat). Fun but definitely room for improvement. We haven’t been on another cruise in the area so it is hard to say whether the other boats suffer from the same issues. I will also list some nice to know items.
Pros -
- The staff is amazing! A shout out to Anna who took care of us throughout the cruise and Tom & Peter for the excursions.
- The suite was extremely large, including an oversized bathroom with separate large shower and tub. The views out the windows and private balcony were priceless.
- We were provided with an itinerary when we boarded and they were always right on time. Meals, boat coming/going, etc.
- Since we were on for two nights we got to experience an entire day of kayaking, exploring a village, and biking. Those that stay only one night miss out and can only do the bamboo raft short adventure.
Cons -
- Cleanliness is an issue. The main part of the cabin was clean but there is dust built up everywhere. Turnaround time for guests is quick and there is limited staff which likely explains the lack of attention to detail.
- We were told that the boat was relatively new but it looks in dire need of renovation. Everything is scuffed, peeling, and damaged. The construction of the boat is also very poor in almost every aspect - leaking shower, flooring coming apart, etc.
- Check in and out is a mess. They disembark and embark the next group at the same time onto the tender. Very chaotic, especially when wifi is down and they struggle to complete payment transactions.
- Their cruise terminal is extremely underwhelming. Some of the others in the area are large and comfortable. Theirs is a basic room with one washroom. Not a good first impression.
- Others have mentioned this before - We originally booked the La Pinta cruise but were told a week before the actual cruise that they didn’t have enough people for that one so they offered us Le Theatre instead. Whether this is a bait and switch is debatable but I don’t doubt this boat is a downgrade from what we booked.
Other notes -
- When they say internet and cell service will be spotty they mean it. We rarely had any service. Expect none for the duration of your cruise.
- We spent extra for private transport from Hanoi. After seeing the very fancy shared small buses they used for others I would suggest getting that instead as the cost is significantly cheaper.
- The vast majority of the food is seafood based. If you want other options let them know ahead of time and they will put together other food for you.
