Translated by Bing
In addition to maintaining the tradition of making incense by hand, for many years, in Thuy Xuan incense village (Hue City), the production of incense by machine has produced more beautiful and balanced products and incense plants than when made by hand.

About 7 km from the center of Hue city, Thuy Xuan incense village impresses many tourists with its colorful patches of eye-catching decoration. The exhibition area for tourists to visit is concentrated on both sides of Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street.

The people of Thuy Xuan village have been making incense for about 700 years. This place has become a tourist destination for nearly 10 years, located in the cluster of tourist attractions with Vong Canh hill, Tu Duc mausoleum, Dong Khanh mausoleum. Currently, households are still making handmade incense to serve tourism. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the process of making traditional incense sticks and be guided to make the product with their own hands. This experience is especially attractive to international visitors. However, to meet business needs, households still make incense with automatic machines.

The incense making process starts from the mixing of flour including many sophisticated ingredients such as five Northern herbs with cinnamon, cardamom, pine buds, cloves, star anise, wild grapefruit peel, dried grapefruit flowers, cinnamon, eucalyptus mixed with water. The core of the incense stick is made from bamboo intestines that are split into small pieces and exposed to the sun for many days so that the sticks are dry and easy to stick to the powder.

The incense core is then dyed about half of the bamboo stick. Previously, incense sticks only had two colors: brown powder and red core. The incense for sale is dried evenly to dry quickly.

In the exhibition area, to attract tourists, sellers dye more colorful colors and spread out a round bouquet of incense to look like flowers. Thuy Xuan incense village does not charge an entrance fee. Visitors can take photos freely, then can buy incense or souvenirs at the household.
