Phu Mau Flower Village (Phu Mau commune) is famous for being the oldest and largest in Hue, providing ornamental flowers to neighboring provinces. Phu Mau flowers are planted on tens of hectares in the villages of Vong Tri, The Vinh, Thanh Tien, and Tien Nuan.
The village grows flowers all year round, but it is most brilliant during the Lunar New Year season. Most people's houses have their own flower gardens, they will plant and take care of flowers for 4 months, leaving around December 23. This place is about 7 km from Hue City, located on the route to visit Tu Duc mausoleum. Thanh Tien confetti village located in Phu Mau commune, Hoa Vang district. This is a famous destination for making confetti for worship for hundreds of years. Every year, people here only make flowers in December, so there is also a tradition of singing: "Green, blue, red, red, yellow, yellow. Every December, the whole village makes flowers." Duc Hieu shared that when he came here, every house he entered, adults and children were like artisans, even though they were farmers, but their hands were skillful and talented.
The ancient custom of the Hue people, every time the confetti comes to Tet, it will be displayed in a solemn place such as Trang Ong, Trang Ba, Ong Tao... Today, this belief also spreads to many localities such as Da Nang and Quang Tri. Paper flowers are dyed in five colors, forming large trees. In addition, the people of Thanh Tien village also simulate realistic flowers such as lotus, wall, chrysanthemum... just like the real thing.
When learning about Tet craft villages, visitors should not miss Di Linh village, the only village that produces statues of Mr. Cong and Mr. Apple in Thua Thien Hue. The village in Huong Vinh commune, Huong Tra town only produces this statue in December. However, from July to August of the lunar calendar, they have prepared clay to clean it of impurities and in October, they molded it.
The statue of Mr. Cong and Mr. Apple is shaped like two men sitting on 2 sides, and she sitting in the middle. The clay will be molded with ironwood then dried in the sun and fired in the oven. The finished baked statue is light red, the producer will skillfully paint the color to create an eye-catching color before exporting to the market. Every day, a household furnace can burn up to 5,000 statues. The burning smell from the fired clay, the sound of the toad molding of the statue in the village is like a signal of the return of spring.
On the occasion of Tet, Ha Cang ginger jam village (Quang Phu commune, Quang Dien district) is red again. Not on a large scale like Kim Long area, dozens of households in Ha Cang village still maintain traditional crafts. From the 10th month of the lunar calendar every year, they start making jam and peak in November and December.
The ginger jam here is made from ginger roots grown in the highlands of A Luoi, Hue, so it has a characteristic spicy taste. After peeling, washing, and grating the ginger root, it will be soaked in lemon juice, then sweetened with sugar and slugs on the stove. The stages are all handmade and sophisticated by the elderly, especially without preservatives. Visitors can directly see the stages and buy them as gifts.
