As an intriguing event within the framework of the Hanoi Festival of Creative Design 2024, the performance “The Fall” invites viewers to step into an open stage — which is also the exhibition space of the artwork of the same name by artist Nguyen Hoang Giang - the audience can observe the performers and be guided in practicing how to fall like a robot.
Inspired by a video from Boston Dynamics that documented the research process of improving the fall recovery ability of bipedal robots, the performance humorously highlights the mechanism of learning from mistakes and bouncing back stronger. Humans continually strive to enhance the dexterity and coordination of robots to better prepare them for real-world applications.
However, in this demonstration, both the performer and participants reverse the teacher-student relationship, creating a humorous contradiction in the process of teaching and learning.
The event takes place in two time slots: from 14:00 to 15:00 on November 9, 2024 and from 16:00 to 17:00 on November 15, 2024 at the "The Fall" gallery (1st floor, building B, Hanoi Children's Palace), for audiences aged 12 and over and limited to a maximum of 20 participants to ensure the most complete experience.
The performance invites participants to imagine a not-too-distant future where humans and machines will learn and live together, and raises questions about the increasingly complex relationship between humans and technology, as well as our place in a future world where artificial intelligence and automation are ubiquitous. The performance “The Fall” is an opportunity for the audience of the Hanoi Festival of Creative Design 2024 to explore this interesting and thoughtful perspective.
