“Rock Show: Hanoi - A place to return to” is one of the large-scale outdoor performances within the framework of the Hanoi Festival of Creative Design 2024. The program brings together Hanoi’s iconic rock bands from different decades: Purple Blues (the first generation of Hanoi rock), Thuy Trieu Do (a representative of heavy metal in Vietnam), Ly Buc (a band that emerged during the rise of independent music, blending unique genres with traditional Vietnamese culture), and Blue Whales (a young, vibrant, and creative rock band). This show combines modern creativity with traditional values, showcasing the evolution of rock music in Vietnam over time.
At “Rock Show: Hanoi - A place to return to”, Purple Blues stands as a pioneer in Hanoi’s rock scene, with members who are professionally trained musicians, rich in experience, and driven by their passionate rock spirit. Despite most of the members being from the 60s and 70s generations, their performances exude timeless energy. In the Hanoi Festival of Creative Design, they captivated the audience with a 40-minute set of classic rock hits from around the world.
Alongside Purple Blues, Thuy Trieu Do holds significant influence in Hanoi’s rock community, representing the heavy metal genre in Vietnam since 1995. With a career spanning over two decades, they have left a powerful mark on numerous major music events in Vietnam, such as Vietnam Rock Festival 2004, Rock & Yamaha Storm 2005, Rock Storm (2008–2010), and especially the Hanoi Festivals of Creative Design in 2022 and 2023.
The next generation of Hanoi rock bands, such as Ly Buc, is known for its expressive compositions that blend modern music with Vietnamese culture. This unique combination allows their songs to maintain traditional values while being entertaining and connecting with the audience.
The youngest representative, Blue Whales, features young, energetic, and innovative members. Their distinctive sound is alternative metal, a genre that creatively inherits elements from predecessors like Rock & Roll, Punk Rock, and Heavy Metal.
Four bands, four generations, four distinct shades of rock spanning Hanoi’s rock development - a rare gathering that serves as a gift for rock enthusiasts of all ages. Taking place at 9:00 p.m. on November 10, 2024, at the intersection of August Revolution Square - the Hanoi Opera House, the music night "Rock Show: Hanoi - A place to return to" will not simply be a performance; it will also serve as a convergence of creative spirit and musical heritage, featuring renowned bands representing diverse genres of rock music.
