Galerie Quynh presents "Fight or Flight or Float or Fall", a solo exhibition with a new series of works by artist Tuan Andrew Nguyen.
Spread across four galleries, this experimental series focuses on sculptural installations, combined with Tuan's research on historical memory, physical memory, and resistance strategies related to memory retention.
Movement is the lifeblood throughout the works. Visitors enter the exhibition through a cluster of 37 bamboo curtains, echoing tones from hollow bamboo tubes; the air creeps in, gently swaying the dragonflies balancing on the stupa-like pedestal made of UXO (unexploded material); a cluster of bamboo curtain columns rotates by a motor, depicting important figures in history; The layers of wave curtains are like the surface of the water when the viewer moves through space.
The intrinsic nature of the material in Tuan's compositions also contains contradictions. The artist emphasizes extraordinary images, and they also seem to be in conflict, fighting for dominance.
The title of the exhibition evokes a call – a fight for survival. Throughout the exhibition, images and objects confronted with violence, destruction and psychological trauma are intertwined with empathy, harmony and healing.
