1. Hydrofoil high-speed boats
The high-speed ferry to Cat Ba currently has many time frames, ticket prices and train quality for tourists to choose from. Major shipping lines include Catba Island Resort & Spa, Mekong Hoang Yen, Victoria Cat Ba, Hadeco... Every day, depending on the airline, there will be 2 to 5 flights each way (Hai Phong - Cat Ba and vice versa), in the time frame from 7 am to about 3 pm.
There are two departure points of the train, from Hong Bang wharf (Hung Vuong street, Hai Phong city center), the travel time is 40 to 60 minutes or from Got ferry terminal (Cat Hai district), the travel time is 10 minutes. Ticket prices range from 130,000 VND to 250,000 VND.
2. Cable car
Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car station is located about 3 km from Got ferry terminal, across the Tan Vu - Lach Huyen sea bridge. The cable car has 60 cabins with a capacity of 30 guests per cabin, transporting only people. The operating hours of the cable car are from 9 am to 3:45 pm (weekdays) and 9 am to 5 pm (weekends). Frequency 15 minutes per trip. Travel time on the cable is 10 minutes at a time. Thirdly, the cable car breaks for maintenance.
The cable car ticket price is 100,000 VND per way for adults and free for children under 1 m. Visitors with motorbikes and private cars can park at Cat Hai station with a fee of 5,000 to 10,000 VND for motorbikes and from 20,000 to 70,000 VND for cars, depending on the time of delivery.
3. Ferry from Tuan Chau port
From Tuan Chau (Quang Ninh), there are 5 ferries to Cat Ba Island every day, from 7:30 to 15:00. In the opposite direction from 9 am to 4 pm. The ferry terminal of this route in Cat Ba is Gia Luan. The ferry run time is about 45-50 minutes. The ticket price for passengers is 60,000 VND and for cars with less than 9 seats is 300,000 VND.
Compared to Got wharf, the advantage of Tuan Chau - Gia Luan ferry is that it is quieter, especially on Tet holidays or peak summer tourism. However, if visitors travel from the center of Hai Phong or Hanoi, they will have to travel farther by road, and the ticket price is also higher.
4. Buses
From Hai Phong City, visitors can take bus 16C to Got ferry terminal, then walk to the ferry and take bus No. 14 (from Cai Vieng side) to the center of Cat Ba island. Visitors only buy a ticket for pedestrians for 12,000 VND (Cat Hai people are 7,000 VND), the waiting time for the ferry is much shorter than by car. The bus ticket price for each leg is 13,000 VND. There are 40 trips a day, including outbound and return.
In Cat Ba, when there is no personal vehicle, visitors can use:
- Bus No. 14, ticket price 13,000 VND per way.
- Cat Ba Discovery's bus, priced at 30,000 VND per person, frequency 10 minutes per trip.
- Rent a car yourself.
- Tram, 10,000 VND per person per way (only in the center of the island).
