Carmen is one of the most frequent, famous and accessible operas in the world by French composer Georges Bizet. It is filled with pompous music, with tunes that most people with little access to opera will recognize immediately. The work consists of 4 acts, with French lyrics of arias written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on the novel of the same name by Prosper Mérimée published in 1845, which was inspired by Pushkin's 1824 poem The Gypsies.

Set in the 30s of the nineteenth century in Seville, Spain, the play begins with the story of Don José, a brave officer, seduced by the wild and fiery beauty of the digan girl Carmen. Entangled in love with Carmen, Don José lived a turbulent and challenging life...

Carmen's melodies have been truly influential, along with the world of cinema, from animation to feature films.

The film version of the opera CARMEN, produced in 1984 by Italian director Francesco Rosi, will be shown in the original French version with English subtitles.
